Every civilisation has been defined by its greatest discoveries, yet history suggests that humanity's moral challenges often begin where its scientific achievements end. Science expands knowledge, technology expands capability, but progress depends upon how both are applied. Although scientific innovation has transformed human civilisation, genuine progress occurs only when technological capability is governed by ethical responsibility and directed towards improving human flourishing. This essay will explore how science empowers humanity, innovation inevitably creates ethical responsibilities and wisdom—not intelligence alone—ultimately determines whether progress benefits civilisation.
