What are the different sources for knowledge of God? HINT - there are seven in total
The Bible, revelation from personal expereinces / religious expereinces, prophets, innate sense of God (something that you were born with), philosophical arguments, cosmological argument, ontological argument.
What are the philosophical arguments?
Prime mover, teleological / design argument, the world is so structured and ordered that there must be a designer.
What is the cosmological argument?
Focuses on the existance of the universe and the order of the universe.
What is Revealed Theology?
what we know about God becuase he has chosen to reveal those truths about himself
What is Natural Theology?
What we work out about God using our natural senses and intelligence.
What is propositional knowledge?
Knowledge about knowledge of facts. For exaple we have propositional of knowledge of God.
What is acquaintance knowledge?
Direct and immediate contact with. Things that we would only have knowledge about if we have had direct and immediate contact with them.
What is Natural Theology a source of?
Propositional knowledge with facts there is a God and that God is all powerful.
What is Revealed Theology a source of?
Propositional and acquaintance knowledge. Chrisitians typically claim to have propositional and acquaintance knowledge of the existance of God.
What is a positive view on Natural Theology and who supports it?
Thomas Aquinas, Roman catholics - Natural theology works and is correct but is limited. Part of the truth of existance of god, but not whole.
What is a negative view of Natural theology and who supports it?
Evangelic Christians, Karl Barth - Because of human weakness, humans are too stupid to know anything about God.
