What does the genetic code do?
Translates 3 mRNA bases into the appropriate amino acid
What does it mean by the code being degenerate?
Often more than 1 codon for an amino acid. Degeneracy is on the 3rd base of the codon which is therefore less important than he others
What does it mean by the code being universal?
Same for almost all living organisms
What does it mean by the code being non-overlapping?
Codons are read as discreet triplets of bases and do not overlap
