Eukaryotic cells
Cells that contain their genetic material enclosed in a nucleus, such as animal and plant cells.
Nucleus
The structure in eukaryotic cells that contains the genetic material or DNA.
Cell membrane
The structure around the edge of a cell; it is found in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.
Cytoplasm
The substance found within the cell membrane in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.
Prokaryotic cells
Cells in which the genetic material is not enclosed in a nucleus; they are much smaller than eukaryotic cells.
Bacteria
An example of prokaryotic cells.
Single loop of DNA
The form that genetic material takes in prokaryotic cells like bacteria.
Plasmids
Small rings of DNA found in bacteria.
Bacterial cell wall
A structure found in prokaryotic cells that should not be confused with the plant cell wall.
