Manufacturing

The process of producing goods from raw materials or components, usually using machinery, labour and technology.

E-Waste

Computers, phones, and other electronic products that are thrown away because they are old, broken, etc. It is dangerous because it contains toxic heavy metals like lead, mercury, and cadmium.

Globalisation

Globalisation is the process of the world becoming increasingly interconnected through the movement of people, goods, services, information, technology, money, and ideas between countries.

Digital Divide

The disparity in access and experience of technology and level of interconnection that has been achieved through technology.

Developed Country

A developed country is a nation with a developed industrial base, higher average income and GDP, a high quality of life (HDI), a strong economy, and advanced technological infrastructure compared to other less-developed nation.

Developing Country

A developing country is a nation with a less-developed industrial base, lower average income and GDP, and a lower Human Development Index (HDI) compared to developed countries.

International Trade

The buying and selling of goods and services between different countries. It includes both imports and exports.

Economic Indicator

A statistic used to measure and understand the economic performance, development or wellbeing of a country or region, e.g GDP per capita.

Social Indicator

A statistic that measures social conditions and quality of life within a population, e.g HDI, Life Expectancy.

Environmental Indicator

A measurement used to assess the condition of the natural environment or the impact humans have on it, e.g CO2 emissions per person.

Import

A good or service that is bought from another country and brought into a country for use or sale.

Export

A good or service that is produced in one country and sold to another country.
