shackle

U-shaped load connection device which features a removable pin

shouldered eyebolt

forged steel bolt that features a threaded shank on one end and a round eye formed on the other end

swivel hoist ring

attachment hardware item with a body that can rotate 360° and a bail that can swivel 180°

hook

drop forged, cast, or alloy steel rigging hardware device where slings, shackles, master links, and other rigging hardware may be attached

master link

forged steel ring that is most often made out of alloy steel that has been hardened and then tempered for strength

sheave

grooved pulley or wheel over which a wire rope is passed to change the direction of rope pull and also gain mechanical advantage

snatch block

hardware item with a side plate that can be opened to receive wire rope on a sheave

wire rope clip

hardware device commonly used for forming an eye in wire rope or attaching wire rope to equipment

turnback

specified amount of wire rope from the eye to the end of the tail

wedge socket

hardware fitting used to attach a hook or other hardware to wire rope by securing the wire rope in a socket with a wedge

headache ball

heavy metal ball between the wedge socket and the hook which is used to keep the load line taut

turnbuckle

hardware device used to equalize the length of slings and to precision level loads

chain fall

housing containing a chain sheave over which a load chain travels

come-along

housing with a permanent hook attached at one end and a load chain that passes through the other end

rigging beam

load handling device made from structural steel shapes or heavy wall pipe that is used to distribute the weight of a load or adjust sling angles

tag line

length of fiber rope attached to a cue-ended load
