Foramen magnum

Located at the base of the skull, where spinal cord meets medulla

Type I (adult) Chiari Malformation

Only cerebellum is displaced

Usually asymptomatic

Type II (infantile) Chiari Malformation

Displacement of the cerebellum and medulla

Commonly comorbid with spina bifida

Dura mater

• Outer layer

• Tough

• Adheres to skull (mostly)

Periosteal layer (dura)

Outer, near bone

Meningeal layer (dura)

Inner, near other meninges

Falx Cerebri

• Separates left and right cerebral hemispheres

• Midline

• Falx=sickle

Tentorium cerebelli

• Separates cerebellum from cerebrum

• Bilateral

Middle meningeal artery

Supplies blood to the dura mater, in the epidural space
