DNA

the molecule that carries the genetic instructions used in the growth, development, functioning, and reproduction of all living organisms

Double Helix

a double helix shape formed by two linked strands that wind around each other like a twisted ladder

Cell Cycle

An ordered series of growth, DNA replication, and division events that a cell undergoes to produce two daughter cells.

Interphase

the active, preparatory period in the cell cycle when a cell grows, performs its normal metabolic functions, and duplicates its DNA in preparation for cell division

Gap 1

the first major growth stage of the eukaryotic cell cycle, occurring after mitosis and before DNA replication

Synthesis

the process of combining separate parts, elements, or ideas to form a single, cohesive new whole.

Gap 2

the third subphase of interphase in the cell cycle

Mitosis

a process of cell division where a single cell splits into two identical daughter cells with the same genetic material

Cytokinesis

the physical process of cell division where the cytoplasm of a single parental cell divides into two distinct daughter cells
