Argues that children enter the world innocently.
Emerging adulthood
A period lasting from 18 to late twenties devoted to exploring their place in world.
Young-old people
People in their 60s to 70s who are healthy in modern adult life.
Old-old people
People in their 80s - 100s.
Socioeconomic status
Refers to education and income.
Income inequality
The increasing gap between rich and poor post WW2 where being born in poverty leads to lower quality education, low quality food, being less healthy, and dying early.
Collectivist culture
Culture that emphasizes family, kids obedient to elders, values being respectful, and social harmony.
Individualistic culture
Culture that emphasizes independence, competition, and personal success.
Biosocial domain
A domain of development covering all growth and change that occurs in the body, which genetics, health, and nutrition effect.
Cognitive domain
A domain of development covering all mental processes used, like perceptions, imagination, judgement, and language.
Psychosocial domain
A domain of development covering the development of social skills, emotions, and temperament over time.
Plasticity
The capacity to change, where development builds on what came before.
