He was pope from 1978-2005. He is one of the longest reigning popes and the pope who traveled the most. He also began World Youth Days. John Paul II finished implementing Vatican II. He saw Vatican II as a gift to the Church. John Paul II presented to the Church Theology of the Body, his teachings on the human person.

MAGISTERIUM

To reject a dogma is to be in heresy—in other words, to be a heretic

•a Spanish Jesuit priest and missionary who spent 40 years ministering in Columbia. \n •He is the patron saint of slaves.

Kateri Tekakwitha 1656-1680

First Native American Saint, and She was not well-like by the Native Americans in her village because of her Christian faith.

Juan Diego 1474-1548

Dec. 12th, 1531- Our Lady of Guadalupe (the Mother of God) appears to St. Juan Diego, Mary appeared in the image of a native goddess princess

Martin de Porres 1579-1639

A lay brother of the Dominican order who cared for the poor and sick and who founded an orphanage, and he is the patron saint of racial harmony.

Rose Philippine Duchesne 1769-1852

Opened the first free school west of the Mississippi and the first Catholic School, and She traveled to Sugar Creek, Kansas, where she opened a school for the Potawatomi girls.

Francis Xavier 1506-1552

Was a Jesuit missionary who traveled to India and Japan, he is the patron saint of missions along with St. Therese of Lisieux

St. Frances Xavier Cabrini 1850-1917

She was the first United States citizen to be canonized a saint, and founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart

St. John Neumann 1811-1860

As bishop, he established the first diocesan school system

Elizabeth Ann Seton 1774-1821

First native born American saint, and founded the first American congregation of Religious Sisters, first free Catholic School in America

Bishop- John Carroll 1735-1815

First bishop and archbishop in the United States (Aug. 15, 1790)

St. Isaac Jogues and companions 1607-1646

•a Jesuit missionary from France, and his companions worked with the Huron Indians in the New World in North America (Canada). \n • After years of captivity and torture, they were martyred by the Iroquois in 1646.

Eusebio Francisco Kino 1645-1711

•an Italian Jesuit missionary who founded 24 missions and chapels in Mexico, Arizona, and California.

St. Junipero Serra 1713-1784

John XXIII
