Buoyancy
The tendency of an object to float in a fluid due to an upward force
Buoyant force (Fb)
The upward force exerted by a fluid on an object immersed in it
Displaced fluid
The fluid pushed out of the way by the submerged part of an object
Archimedes’ principle
The buoyant force of an object equals the weight og the fluid displaced by the object
Buoyant force equations
Fb = weight of displaced fluid
Fb = Pfluid x Vdisplaced x g
Weight of displaced fluid = fluid density x volume displaced x gravity
Weight equation
W = m x g
Object floats
Fb > W
Object sinks
Fb < W
Object is suspended
Fb = W
