Euclid’s Division Algorithm
A method that states any positive integer can be divided by another positive integer so that it leaves a remainder less than the divisor.
Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic
Every composite number can be expressed uniquely as a product of primes, aside from the order of the factors.
Irrational Number
A number that cannot be expressed as the quotient of two integers.
HCF (Highest Common Factor)
The largest factor that two or more numbers share.
LCM (Lowest Common Multiple)
The smallest multiple that is evenly divisible by two or more numbers.
Composite Number
A positive integer that has at least one positive divisor other than one or itself.
Prime Factorisation
Expressing a number as the product of its prime factors.
Coprime Numbers
Two or more numbers that have no common factor other than 1.
Divisibility
A property indicating that a number can be divided by another number without leaving a remainder.
Long Division
A method of division where numbers are divided in a step-by-step process.
Decimal Expansion
The representation of a number in decimal form.
Rational Number
A number that can be expressed as a quotient of two integers where the denominator is not zero.
Proof by Contradiction
A method of proving a statement by assuming the opposite and showing it leads to a contradiction.
