what is the enquiry stage 2 about
about how you collect the data for the fieldwork.
how does the topography map give us data for the fieldwork
can selects sites of river within the same drainage basin making the leaky dam the only variable.
helps us identify sites that come from the drainage basin.
Helps us identify sites that are safe and easy to do measurements.
What is a flood risk map
A map that shows us where it is most likely going to flood
How does a flood risk map give us data for the fieldwork
Identify the river that floods pickering
how to measure width of the river (adv + dis)
get measuring tape and get two people to stand oppositely between the river and read the measuring.
adv- easy and quick
dis- human error
how to measure depth (adv + dis)
split the length of the river into 10 sections and measure each section using a meter ruler.
Adv- gives lots of data, fast and simple
dis- human error and rocks can be at the bottom of river (less accurate data)
define wetted perimeter
how much the sides and river bed touches the water
how to measure wetted perimeter (adv +dis)
place chain in side of the river where the water hits, and let it dip and go across the river bed all the way to the other side of the river, then lift it and measure the parts of the chain where it got wet.
how to measure the gradient
measure a part of a river where is straight, put a person each for each end, holding a meter ruler. The person at the lower end uses a clinometer at eye level, using it to aim at the other persons
