Elastane
A type of elastomeric fiber made of at least 85% segmented polyurethane, known for its elasticity.
Mineral Fibers
Durable, rigid inorganic fibers that have higher melting points and better heat resistance. They are non-flammable but can be fragile.
Yarn Numbering
The process of classifying a thread or yarn based on the ratio of length and weight.
Direct System
A yarn numbering system where the ratio is between weight and length, often used for continuous fibers.
Indirect System
A yarn numbering system where the ratio is between length and weight, commonly applied to natural fibers.
Tex
A unit of measure in the direct system of yarn numbering, representing the weight in grams of 1,000 meters of yarn.
Denier
A direct system measurement where a lower number indicates finer yarn, based on the weight of 9,000 meters of yarn.
Metric titration
An indirect system of yarn numbering based on the weight of a fixed length of yarn.
Higher number in Indirect System
Indicates a finer yarn in the indirect yarn numbering system.
Continuous Fibers
Fibers that can be spun into yarns without interruption, such as silk, rayon, and nylon.
