め
1) Eye; Eyes
2) Vision; eyesight
3) Look; stare; gaze
4) Ordinal number suffix
So basically you can add め after an ordinal number to mark a thing’s position in a sequential set of otherwise similar things (like if you get the 2nd place trophy out of 3 trophies)
Ex: みっつめ means the third thing/one. This is assuming there is a 2nd one and a 1st one. Also can say ここのかめ meaning the 9th day usually with the added meaning of insinuating this was a consecutive day (like on a trip)
5) Sprout; bud
6) Can be used as a suffix to add a “damn” in front of the noun. It makes the noun function as a more insulting term (like おまえめ means you bastard) often used in anger
ばんめ
The nth _. Very similar to め as a suffix for ordinal numbers. But while め focuses more on emphasizing the individual items and has a lot of flexibility being able to attach onto pretty much any counter word, ばんめ focuses on the specific order and emphasizes the position with the list. It primarily attaches to raw numbers (いちばんめ the first in the order/rank or the first place
Rule of thumb; め is used for counting items in a sequence (counting oranges from an orange box) ばんめ is used to indicate rank or list position
