Neurodevelopmental Disorders
Disorders characterized by deficits in intellectual functioning and adaptive functioning, with onset during the developmental period.
Intellectual Disability/Intellectual Developmental Disorder
A deficit in intellectual functioning confirmed by clinical, individualized intelligence testing, along with a deficit in adaptive functioning.
Global Developmental Delay
Refers to individuals under the age of 5 years when the clinical severity level cannot be reliably assessed during early childhood.
Unspecified Intellectual Disability
Refers to individuals over the age of 5 years when assessment of the degree of intellectual disability is difficult or impossible due to associated sensory or physical impairments.
Language Disorder
Persistent difficulties in the acquisition and use of language across modalities, including reduced vocabulary, limited sentence structure, and impairments in discourse.
Speech Sound Disorder
Persistent difficulty with speech sound production that interferes with speech intelligibility or prevents verbal communication of messages.
Childhood-Onset Fluency Disorder (Stuttering)
Disturbances in the normal fluency and time patterning of speech, characterized by repetitions, prolongations, broken words, and other speech disruptions.
Unspecified Communication Disorder
Symptoms characteristic of a communication disorder that cause clinically significant distress or impairment but do not meet the full criteria for a specific disorder.
Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder
Persistent difficulties in the social use of verbal and nonverbal communication, including deficits in using communication for social purposes and difficulties following conversation rules.
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
A persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development.
Inattention
Symptoms of ADHD characterized by difficulty sustaining attention, being easily distracted, and forgetfulness.
Hyperactivity and Impulsivity
Symptoms of ADHD characterized by fidgeting, restlessness, talking excessively, and difficulty waiting turn.
Specific Learning Disorder
Difficulties learning and using academic skills, with at least one of the following symptoms for at least 6 months:inaccurate/slow word reading, difficulty understanding meaning of what is read, difficulties with spelling, difficulties with written expression, difficulties with number sense/facts/calculation, difficulties with mathematical reasoning.
Developmental Coordination Disorder
Acquisition and execution of coordinated motor skills is substantially below expected level for age, manifested as clumsiness, slowness, and inaccuracy in motor skills performance.
Stereotypic Movement Disorder
Repetitive, seemingly driven, and purposeless motor behavior that interferes with social, academic, or other activities, and may result in self-injury.
Tic Disorder
Sudden, rapid, recurrent, nonrhythmic motor movement or vocalization.
Tourette's Disorder
Presence of multiple motor and one or more vocal tics at some point during the illness, persisting for more than 1 year since the onset of the first tic, with onset before age 18.
Persistent (Chronic) Motor or Vocal Tic Disorder
Presence of single or multiple motor or vocal tics, persisting for more than 1 year since the onset of the first tic, with onset before age 18, but criteria for Tourette's disorder have not been met.
