Clutch
A component that connects engine power to the drivetrain as engine RPM increases, allowing the engine to idle without driving the kart
Clutch Drum
The outer rotating portion of the clutch that engages the drivetrain and transfers engine power to the chain
Clutch Shoes
Friction components inside the clutch that move outward as RPM increases and engage the clutch drum
Jackshaft
A rotating shaft in the drivetrain that transfers engine power to the rear axle and accommodates drivetrain components such as sprockets and the clutch
Chain
A series of linked metal rollers that transfers rotational power from a drive sprocket to a driven sprocket
Drive Sprocket
The sprocket connected to the engine or jackshaft that transfers power into the chain
Driven Sprocket
The sprocket connected to the axle or jackshaft that receives power from the chain
Sprocket
A toothed wheel that engages with a chain to transfer rotational power
Gear Ratio
The relationship between the number of teeth on the driven sprocket and the number of teeth on the drive sprocket that affects acceleration and top speed
Chain Tension
The amount of tightness in the chain
Chain Breaker
A tool used to remove pins from a chain so the chain can be shortened, lengthened, or replaced
Chain Guard
A protective cover that helps prevent contact with the moving chain and sprocket
