Periodic Table Key
The visual layout of an element entry showing its Atomic Number, Symbol, Name, Atomic Weight, and Electrons per shell.
Atomic Number
The integer located at the top center of an element box in the periodic table.
Atomic Weight
The numerical value positioned directly below the element's name in its periodic table box.
Electrons per shell
The series of numbers at the bottom of an element box specifying the electron distribution across shell levels.
Alkali metals
A background color subcategory in the metal-metalloid-nonmetal trend containing elements such as Lithium (Li), Sodium (Na), Potassium (K), Rubidium (Rb), and Caesium (Cs).
Alkaline earth metals
A background color subcategory in the metal-metalloid-nonmetal trend containing Beryllium (Be), Magnesium (Mg), Calcium (Ca), Strontium (Sr), and Barium (Ba).
Transition metals
A major subcategory of metallic elements spanning Groups 3 to 12 (IIIB to IIB) in the periodic table.
Lanthanides
A metallic subcategory represented by atomic numbers 57 to 71.
Post-transition metals
A subcategory in the metal-metalloid-nonmetal trend including elements such as Aluminium (Al), Gallium (Ga), Indium (In), Tin (Sn), Thallium (Tl), Lead (Pb), and Bismuth (Bi).
Metalloids
A subcategory in the metal-metalloid-nonmetal trend including Boron (B), Silicon (Si), Germanium (Ge), Arsenic (As), Antimony (Sb), Tellurium (Te), Polonium (Po), and Astatine (At).
Reactive nonmetals
A subcategory in the metal-metalloid-nonmetal trend including Hydrogen (H), Carbon (C), Nitrogen (N), Oxygen (O), Fluorine (F), Phosphorus (P), Sulfur (S), Chlorine (Cl), Selenium (Se), Bromine (Br), and Iodine (I).
Noble gases
A subcategory in the metal-metalloid-nonmetal trend located in Group 18 (VIIIA) including Helium (He), Neon (Ne), Argon (Ar), Krypton (Kr), Xenon (Xe), and Radon (Rn).
State of matter trend indicator
The element name color coding scheme used to identify the state of matter as GAS, LIQUID, SOLID, or UNKNOWN.
