Continuous Measurement
Tracking a behavior over a specific time period
Frequency
A count of the behavior where time is not specified
Rate
A count of the behavior in a specified amount of time; response per unit of time
Duration
How long a behavior lasts from the moment it starts to when it ends
Latency
How long between a behavior and antecedent or trigger is introduced
IRT
time between end of one response and start of next response of the same behavior
Discontinuous measurement
Not capturing every single instance of a behavior
Partial Interval Recording
Recording whether a behavior occurred at any point during a specified interval
Whole Interval Recording
Records data when the behavior occurs throughout an entire time interval
Momentary Time Sampling
Records behavior if it occurs at the very end of an interval
Data and graphs
Line graphs, data on behavior
Preference Assessment
Determining what object a client prefers
Free operant observation
Client is free in a room and learner can collect data on what client prefers
Multiple stim with replacement
Client chooses between a selection of items, then is told to choose again in the selection
Multiple stim without replacement
Client chooses between a selection of items again and again until a hierarchy is created of the items
Paired stimulus
Client chooses between two options
Single stimulus
Choose for the client and record how long they interact with the item
ABC Data
Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence
Discrete trial training
Giving a command, client does/doesn’t complete it, RBT gives reinforcement/error correction; clear beginning, middle, and end
Naturalistic teaching
Using the environment as an opportunity to teach the client skills or something new
Chaining
Taking a task and breaking it down into multiple steps, then slowly fade out prompts by combining steps
Forward chaining
Teach the first step
Backwards chaining
Teaching the last step first
Total task chaining
Teaching all the steps of a task at once
Shaping
Reinforcing successive approximations of a desired behavior
Discrimination training
Teaching the learner to discriminate between two different things
Stimulus control training
Transferring control of behavior from a prompt to the natural cue
Prompting
A prompt is help given to encourage the correct response; fading so client doesn’t need prompts as often
Token system
Learner earns tokens for correct responses and after a certain number earned, they can be exchanged for a backup reinforcer (tangible or activity)
Crisis/Emergency
Steps to take during dangerous or unexpected situations to keep everyone safe
Antecedent interventions
change what happened before a behavior to increase the appropriate behavior and prevent the problem behavior
Differential reinforcement
Reinforce on thing and not something else
Extinction
Not reinforcing a behavior to cause that behavior to decrease
Session notes
Objective language, 24 hours after session
Client dignity
Giving the client a say in their treatment
Professional boundaries
Avoid multiple relationships (such as babysitting)
Supervision requirements
5% of therapy hours must be supervised by a BCBA
Clinical direction
If I have questions about a program and I’m not sure how to run it
