A computer system that uses programmed processors embedded onto a single circuit board.

A microcontroller, consisting of a CPU as well as RAM and ROM.

What software do embedded systems use to control the hardware?

Firmware.

What is the difference between software and firmware?

You interact with software, however you don’t interact with firmware.

What coding language is typically used to develop firmware?

Assembly

Can some firmware be updated by the user?

Most devices solely run firmware added by the manufacturer, however some firmware can be updated by the user.
