Australian Ballot

A. ballot prepared and sitributed by govt officials that places names of all candidates on a single list and is filled oit by voters in private.

caucus

closed meeting of a politiical/legislative group to choose candidates for office or to decide issues of policy.

National party convention

gathering of delegates to select a partys presidential and vice presidential ticet and to adopt its national platform

New deal coalition

A broad coalition of groups that supported FDR’s New Deal programs and dominated U.S. politics for decades. such as catholics, jews, racial minorities, etc.

Party Machines

A political organization that uses jobs and favors to gain and keep power.

Patronage

practice of awarding jobs, grants, licenses, or other specifical favors in exhcange for political support.

Progressive era

late 1800s early 1900s, reform of government and electoral institutions in an attempt to reduce corruption and weaken parties.

split ticket

he act of voting for candidates from

different political parties for different offices—for

example, voting for a Republican for president and a

Democrat for senator.

Super-delegates

delegate to the democratic national convention, ilegable to attend because theyre an elected party official. they reservve specific set of delegate slots for party officials.
