Superior vs Inferior
Anatomical directional terms describing position toward the head or upper body part (superior) versus toward the lower part of a structure or the body (inferior).
Anterior vs Posterior
Anatomical directional terms describing position toward the front of the body (anterior) versus toward the back of the body (posterior).
Proximal vs Distal
Anatomical directional terms used for limbs describing proximity closer to the origin or point of attachment to the trunk (proximal) versus farther from the point of attachment or origin (distal).
Superficial vs Deep
Anatomical directional terms describing position closer to or on the body surface (superficial) versus more internal or away from the body surface (deep).
Median Plane vs Frontal Plane vs Transverse Plane
Anatomical planes: Median plane divides the body into equal left and right halves; Frontal plane divides it into anterior and posterior parts; Transverse plane divides it into superior and inferior parts.
Head/Neck Body Regions
Includes the Cephalic, Orbital, Nasal, Cervical, Otic, and Occipital regions.
Thoracic Body Regions
Includes the Sternal, Axillary, and Thoracic regions.
Abdominal Body Regions
Includes the Abdominal, Inguinal, Pubic, and Pelvic regions.
Back Body Regions
Includes the Scapular, Vertebral, Lumbar, and Sacral regions.
Arm Body Regions
Includes the Brachial, Antebrachial, Antecubital, Carpal, Digital, Manus, and Olecranon regions.
Leg Body Regions
Includes the Femoral, Patellar, Fibular, Tarsal, Digital, Popliteal, Sural, and Calcaneal regions.
Dorsal Cavity
One of the two major body cavities, containing the Cranial and Vertebral minor cavities.
Ventral Cavity
One of the two major body cavities, containing the Thoracic and Abdominopelvic minor cavities.
Body Quadrants
The four abdominal regions divided as Right Upper, Right Lower, Left Upper, and Left Lower (opposite to the observer's body).
Mitosis Structures to Identify
Microscopic structures including Chromatin, Nucleolus, Nucleus, and Chromosomes.
Mitosis Phases to Identify
Phases of nuclear division including Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase.
Phase Containing Chromatin
Interphase (the phase where DNA exists in its uncoiled chromatin form before chromosome condensation).
Phase Containing Chromosomes
Mitotic phases (Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase) where chromatin condenses into distinct chromosomes.
Cleavage Furrow
A shallow groove or constriction formed on the cell surface during cytokinesis/late anaphase and telophase to divide the cytoplasm.
