measures your oxygen saturation seeing the percentage of hemoglobin in your blood that is carrying oxygen

light colored skin, x sometimes patients will darker color skin will over estimate what the pulse ox is so nurse should asses the patients other vitals to see how they are doing

increased rate and depth of breathing and or patient is on supplemenetal o2

low SPO2 is called

hypoxia

what are causes of hypoxia/low SPO2

demand for o2 exceeds intake like a airway or breathing problem and or decreased levels of conciousness from things like sedatives and opiates which are a risk to your breathing
