Switch
a device that will create a break in a circuit loop to stop the flow of electrons from an energy source. Is NOT directional
Battery
A device that converts chemical potential energy to electrical energy, is directional in nature
Fixed Resistor
a device used to regulate current (amperes) in an electric circuit by providing resistance, non-directional, measured in ohms (Ω) they have a value that cannot be changed. For example 200 Ω
Potentiometer (Variable Resistor)
A resistor that has a variable resistance (usually a dial) for example 0Ω-1000Ω used to regulate current in a circuit
LED
Light Emitting Diode - a device that allows electrons to flow in ONE direction, causing light to be emitted
Ammeter
A tool that measures current in amperes, needs to be in series with the circuit
Voltmeter
measures the potential difference (voltage) of a circuit component, must be PARALLEL to the circuit components to work
Wire
a thin, flexible thread of metal that allows energy to flow in an electrical circuit
Incandescent light bulb
an electric device, often with a glass covering, that uses resistance of a material to transform electrical energy to visible light and heat
