Fecundity
The physiological ability of a person or couple to have a child.
Fertility
The social realization of the biological ability to have children.
Crude Birth Rate (CBR)
A measure that includes the entire population rather than just those at risk of having a child, and ignores the age structure of the population.
General Fertility Rate (GFR)
The number of births per number of females in the mid-year population ages 15 to 44.
Age-specific Fertility Rate (ASFR)
The number of live births to mothers in a specified age group, divided by the number of females in that age group.
Total Fertility Rate (TFR)
The average number of children born to each woman, assuming birth rates remain constant.
Gross Reproduction Rate (GRR)
Assumes all women survive throughout their childbearing years; measures the average number of daughters born.
Net Reproduction Rate (NRR)
Accounts for mortality risk among women during childbearing years; measures the number of daughters a woman can expect to bear.
Period TFR
Describes the average number of children born to a hypothetical cohort of women over a specific period.
Cohort TFR
Follows the reproductive behavior of women born in the same year.

A graphical representation that shows relationships between chronological time and age.
