Remnant Radiation
Consists of transmitted X-rays that pass through the patient without interaction (appear black) and scatter X-rays that interact with the patient and change direction.
Photostimulable Phosphor (PSP)
An active layer made of Barium Fluorohalide crystals doped with Europium, which gets excited by X-rays.
Metastable State
A high-energy state where excited electrons enter after being stimulated by X-rays.
Prompt Emission
The immediate release of energy as light when 50% of excited electrons return to their normal energy state.
Latent Image
The remaining 50% of excited electrons that hold the image information after X-ray exposure.
Image Fading
The gradual return of excited electrons to their normal state, leading to information loss of approximately 25% every 8 hours.
Photostimulable Luminescence (PSL)
The blue light released when electrons return to normal after being stimulated by the laser.
Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC)
Device that converts the electrical signal generated from light emission into digital data.
Patient Information
Important data needed to associate the imaging plate with the correct patient before processing.
Technical Factors
Higher radiation levels required in CR compared to DR to ensure sufficient signal and compensate for potential information loss.
