What happened at the massacre

The My Lai Massacre occurred on March 16, 1968, during the Vietnam War, when a unit of the U.S. Army, Charlie Company, brutally killed between 300 and 500 unarmed South Vietnamese civilians, mostly women, children, and elderly, in the village of My Lai. The massacre was initially covered up by the military but was later exposed, sparking outrage and widespread condemnation. It remains one of the most infamous war crimes committed by the U.S. during the Vietnam War.
