Change in Energy
The change in energy is equal to the energy of the products minus the energy of the reactants.
Enthalpy Change
Heat flow at constant pressure.
Phase Transition
A transition from a solid state to a liquid state or a gaseous state to a solid state; changing the state of matter.
Latent Heat
The amount of energy that you have to put in to have your phase transition; heat flow that doesn't change the temperature, It's just changing the phase at a constant temperature.
Intermolecular Interactions
Forces between different molecules that all have something to do with the distribution of electrons in those two molecules.
Vaporization
Going from a liquid state to a gaseous state.
Condensation
Going from the gas to the liquid.
Fusion
Melting; going from a solid to a liquid.
Solidification
Solidification or freezing; going from a liquid to a solid.
Sublimation
A direct transformation from a solid to a gas.
Delta H Knot
Enthalpy change at standard pressure, normal atmospheric pressure for one mole of the substance.
Hess's Law
The enthalpy change going from one state to another state doesn't depend on the path that we take.
Formation reaction
Enthalpy changes require a different amount of energy to form a substance from its elements at standard conditions.
