Prolonged Grief Disorder
Loss of a loved one with at least 3 symptoms experienced nearly every day for at least the last month; must have occurred at least a year ago for adults, and at least 6 months ago for children and adolescents.
Denial (Stage of Grief)
Difficulty believing a terminal diagnosis or loss.
Anger (Stage of Grief)
Directing anger toward self, others, or objects during grieving.
Bargaining (Stage of Grief)
Negotiating for more time or a cure.
Depression (Stage of Grief)
Overwhelming sadness due to the inability to change a situation.
Acceptance (Stage of Grief)
Coming to terms with a situation; does not necessarily mean being okay with it.
Traumatic Event (PTSD/Acute Stress)
Exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violation.
Onset and Duration of Acute Stress
Begins immediately after a traumatic event and lasts less than 30 days.
Onset and Duration of PTSD
Can occur at any time (days, weeks, months, or years) after a traumatic event and lasts over 30 days.
DREAMS (PTSD Manifestations)
Detachment, Re-experience, Emotional effects, Avoidance, Medication, Sympathetic hyperactivity.
Prolonged Exposure Therapy
Therapy focused on reducing anxiety and avoidance through exposure.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Therapy involving following the therapist's hand movement with one's eyes.
Dissociative Identity Disorder
Characterized by the existence of 2 or more personality states in a single individual.
Achievement of Integration (DID Treatment)
Blending of all personality states into one.
Dissociation
A mental process where individuals disconnect from their thoughts, feelings, memories, or even identities.
Cycle of Battering
Cycling pattern of violence involving tension-building, serious battering, and a honeymoon phase.
Physical Abuse
When physical harm or pain is involved.
Sexual Abuse
When sexual contact takes place without consent.
Emotional Abuse
Behavior that minimizes an individual's feelings of self-worth or humiliates, threatens, or intimidates a family member.
Economic/Financial Abuse
Failure to provide for the needs of a vulnerable person when adequate funds are available.

Realize, Recognize, Responding, Resist
Sexual Violence
Any act of sexual coercion, including penetration, unwanted sexual contact, and noncontact unwanted sexual experiences
Sexual Assault
Any type of sexual act in which an individual is threatened or coerced to submit against their will
Statutory Rape
Unlawful intercourse between a person who is over the age of consent with a person who is under the age of consent
Rape Trauma Syndrome
A form of PTSD that may happen after sexual assault
Compound Rape Reaction
Depression, suicide, substance abuse, psychotic behaviors
Silent Rape Reaction
When the patient does not tell anyone about the rape

Emotional outburst; Controlled Pattern; Compound rape reaction; Silent Rape Reaction
GHB (gamma-hydroxy-butric acid)
Liquid, white powder, or pill also know as 'G' or 'liquid ecstasy' that cause relaxation, euphoria, incoordination, confusion, deep sedation, and amnesia
Flunitrazepam (Rohypnol)
Pill that dissolvs in liquid that is also known as 'roofies' that cause sedation, psychomotor slowing, muscle relaxation, amnesia
Acute Stress
Manifestations appear and persist at least 3 days and can extend to 1 month
Somatic Symptom Disorder
The psychological and emotional expression of stress shown with physical symptoms absent of organic pathology
Somatic Symptom Disorder
Distressing symptoms with excessive or maladaptive response or associated health concerns, without significant physical findings and medical diagnosis.
Illness Anxiety Disorder
Extreme worry and fear about the possibility of having a disease, where actual symptoms and complaints of symptoms are either mild or absent.
Conversion Disorder/ Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder
Manifests itself as neurological symptoms in the absence of a neurological diagnosis
Factitious Disorder
People with a factitious disorder consciously pretend to be ill to get emotional needs met and attain the status of “patient'
Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another
A caregiver deliberately falsified illness in a vulnerable dependent
Malingering
A consciously motivated act to deceive based on the desire for material gain
