kingdom fungi
The kingdom Fungi comprises a diverse group of organisms, including molds, yeasts, and mushrooms. Fungi are eukaryotic and typically consist of filamentous structures called hyphae, which form a mycelium. They play vital roles in ecosystems as decomposers, breaking down dead organic matter and recycling nutrients. Fungi reproduce via spores and can be found in various environments, often forming symbiotic relationships with plants (mycorrhizae) or being pathogens to plants and animals.
kingdom protista
A kingdom that includes a diverse range of mostly unicellular organisms, such as protozoa, algae, and some fungi-like organisms. Protists are eukaryotic and can be autotrophic or heterotrophic, playing various ecological roles, including as primary producers and decomposers.
kingdom monera
A former kingdom that included all prokaryotic organisms, such as bacteria and archaea. Members of this kingdom are unicellular and diverse, occupying various ecological environments and can reproduce asexually through binary fission or budding.
kingdom animalia
The kingdom Animalia comprises a vast group of multicellular, eukaryotic organisms known as animals. Members of this kingdom are typically heterotrophic, meaning they consume organic material for energy, and are characterized by their ability to move, reproduce sexually, and have specialized tissues and organs.
