Expressway Definition
A high-speed road with controlled entry, exit, and divided traffic flow, often requiring a toll fee.
Ingress and Egress
You can only enter or exit the expressway at officially designated interchanges or entry/exit points.
Right-of-Way Fences
It is strictly illegal to remove or cause the removal of right-of-way fences along the sides of the expressway.
Stopping and Parking
Standing, stopping, loading, unloading, or parking is only permitted in specifically designated rest areas or places.
Property Damage Liability
The driver or owner is responsible for paying damages to expressway property (like rail guards, fences, or lamp posts).
Banned Two-Wheelers
Motorcycles below 400cc, tricycles, scooters, and bicycles are completely banned from entering the expressway.
Motorcycle Exceptions
Allowed motorcycles must be 400cc or above; only one back rider is permitted, and both must wear helmets.
Towed Vehicles
Vehicles being towed are prohibited unless they are actively being removed from the expressway.
Unroadworthy Vehicles
Dilapidated vehicles with broken lights, misaligned chassis, or bald tires are not allowed.
Smoke Belchers
Vehicles emitting excessive smoke are banned under the Clean Air Act.
Unsecured Cargo
Trucks carrying uncovered dirt/gravel or cargo that is not firmly tied down are prohibited.
Minimum Speed Limit
The general minimum speed on the expressway is 60 kph, unless posted otherwise.
Maximum Speed Limit
The general maximum speed on the expressway is 100 kph, unless posted otherwise.
Lane 1 Rule (Innermost/Left)
Lane 1 is strictly for overtaking; cargo trucks, buses, and slow-moving vehicles are never allowed here.
Two-Lane Expressway
Lane 1 is the passing lane; Lane 2 is for all normal vehicle travel.
Three-Lane Expressway (Lane 2)
Lane 2 is for cars, passenger buses, and freight vehicles carrying under 1.5 tons.
Three-Lane Expressway (Lane 3)
Lane 3 is designated for freight over 1.5 tons, special vehicles, and construction equipment.
Four-Lane Expressway (Lanes 2 & 3)
Lane 2 is for cars and medium buses; Lane 3 is for large passenger buses and heavy freight.
Direction to Expressway Signs
Inform drivers of the route or direction to enter the expressway system.
Prohibition Signs
Display which vehicles (like bicycles or small motorcycles) are banned from entering.
Check Brakes Sign
Instructs drivers to reduce speed immediately by lightly stepping on the brakes.
Toll Road Signs
Warn drivers they are approaching a toll plaza so they can prepare payment and pick the right lane.
Merging Safely
Look ahead, enter the ramp slowly, and accelerate to match traffic speed before merging.
Tire Blowout Protocol
Do not slam on the brakes if you experience a flat tire or blowout at high speeds.
Hazard Warning Lights
Only switch on hazard lights when stopping your vehicle for a genuine emergency.
Towing Breakdowns
Broken down vehicles will be towed immediately by authorized operators at the owner's expense.
Toll Preparation
Plan your exit at least 1 km ahead, slow down, and have cash or e-cards ready.
