cloud service provider
What is the cloud computing role?
The business that offers cloud computing services for sale to third parties.
Is responsible for building and maintaining their service offerings. They may do this by creating their own physical infrastructure or they might outsource portions of their infrastructure to other cloud service providers. In that case, cloud service providers are also cloud customers.
cloud customers
What is the cloud computing role?
Consumers of cloud computing services. They use cloud services as the infrastructure, platforms, and/or applications that help them run their own businesses.
cloud service partners
What is the cloud computing role?
Third-party companies who offer some product or service that interacts with the primary offerings of a cloud service provider.
cloud access security broker
What is the cloud computing role?
Cloud service providers who offer a managed identity and access management service to cloud customers that integrate security requirements across cloud services.
on-demand, self-service
What is the driver?
Technologists can access cloud resources almost immediately when they need them to do their job.
scalable
What is the driver?
As the demand on a service increases, customers can easily increase the capacity available to them.
Horizontal scaling
What type of scaling refers to adding more servers to your pool?
Vertical scaling
What type of scaling refers to increasing the capacity of your existing servers?
elasticity
What is the driver?
Both increasing and decreasing capacity as short-term needs fluctuate.
broad network access
What is the driver?
If you have the ability to access the internet, you can connect to public cloud solutions from wherever you are: in an office, at a coffee shop, or on the road.
measured service
What is the driver?
Almost everything you do in the cloud is metered. This allows them to charge you for precisely the services you use, no more and no less.
managed security service providers, or MSSPs
Vendors that provide security services for other organizations are known as what?
They play a crucial role in an organization's security program and should be carefully monitored to ensure that they're living up to their status as trusted partners and that they're effectively meeting the organization's security objectives.
network-based approach
Cloud access security brokers work in two different ways.
In this approach, the broker sits in between the users and the cloud service, monitoring requests and watching for potential violations of security policy, such as sharing a sensitive file with an unauthorized user. If a violation occurs, the broker can block the request before it's sent to the cloud provider.
API-based approach
Cloud access security brokers work in two different ways.
In this approach, the broker does not sit in the line of communication, but uses an API to interact with the cloud service, querying it regularly to monitor for security issues. This approach has the benefit of existing entirely in the cloud, but depending upon the architecture, it may not be able to work in real-time to block requests.
security
In cases where the service being performed has more of a software as a service feel, vendors are also starting to use the term ____ as a service. You can think of ____ as a service as a subcategory of MSSP.
Edge computing
What approach places processing power directly on remote sensors and allows them to perform the heavy lifting required to process data before transmitting a small subset of that data back to the cloud?
Fog computing
What approach places gateway devices out in the field that collect information from sensors and perform that correlation centrally, but still at the remote location before returning data to the cloud?
