Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder ADHD
have trouble with staying focused, selected attention, struggles with a task requiring sustained mental effort, hard time staying still, quiet, etc.
Autism Spectrum Disorder
can be presented in different ways but will lie was autism, difficulty with social interaction (could be in different ways), hard time understanding social norms, hard time keeping emotions
Causes for Autism
environmental (teratogens, toxins, viruses, etc), psychological, genetics (women in 30-40’s have had a higher chance having child with autism)
Schizophrenic Spectrum Disorder
acute= rapid, more intense, more treatable because we catch it fast
chronic= slower, multiple factors, slower, hard to diagnose, too late —> too much damage
Onset late teens-mid 30’s, disturbance in thinking and cognition
Dopamine
Positive Symptoms of Schizophrenia
Delusions, outside of normal added into behavior, hallucinations
Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia
missing something, ie. being blank staring out of the window, lack of emotion, chronic
Delusions of persecution
belief one will be harassed or hurt
Delusions of grandeur
when someone believes they have exceptional abilities ie. i’m god
Hallucinations
postive, auditory is more often because it correlates with thoughts, more servre the more hallucinations there are positive
Schizophrenia and Disorganized thinking of speech
random words, all over the place, no rules of syntax/grammar
Disorganized motor behavior
catatonic excitement, positive, periods of extreme restlessness, ie. rubbing arm
Flat Affect
nothing, no effect, emotions and behavior, catatonic superior
Causes of Schizophrenia
genetic, prenatal virus exposure (certain strands of the flu), age of father at conception, dopamine hypothalamus.
