What are the GCSE knowledge of the features → trachea , bronchi , bronchioles ?

Trachea : C shaped ring of cartilage for support , to prevent collapse when air pressure inside is lower than external pressure

→ flexible to allow movement + lined with cilla

→ Large enough to allow sufficient passage of air

2
New cards

What are the different cell in the respiratory + airways ?

Cillated Epithelium

Goblet Cell

Smooth muscle cell

3
New cards

What is the function of cillated epithelium cell ?

Epithelial cell lining the trachea, bronchi , bronchioles have cilla on their plasma membrane

Cilla are the microscopic hairs which waft mucous to the back of the throat

4
New cards

What is the function of goblets cells ?

It is in between the cillated epithelium cell

To secrete mucous which traps pathogens and other small particle, that are inhaled.

5
New cards

What are the functions of smooth muscle cell ?

Contracts and constrict airways, making the lumen narrower and restricting the flow of the air into the alveoli

It;s found in the outer layer of the trachea, bronchi , bronchioles.

Elastic fibre : allows airways to recoil when smooth muscle relaxes

6
New cards

When does the smooth muscle cell contract and constrict ?

People who have asthma or breathing toxic chemical / gas
