Verbityyppi 1 (Verb Type 1)
Verbs that end in two vowels, the last of which is 'a' or 'ä' (e.g., asua, kysyä, lukea, antaa, tietää). It is the most common verb type.
Personal Ending: minä
The ending used for the 1st person singular 'I', which is '-n'.
Personal Ending: sinä
The ending used for the 2nd person singular 'you', which is '-t'.
Personal Ending: hän
The ending used for the 3rd person singular 'he/she', which involves repeating the final vowel or having no specific ending.
Personal Ending: me
The ending used for the 1st person plural 'we', which is '-mme'.
Personal Ending: te
The ending used for the 2nd person plural 'you all', which is '-tte'.
Personal Ending: he
The ending used for the 3rd person plural 'they', which is '-vat' or '-vät'.
Astevaihtelu (K-P-T-vaihtelu)
Consonant gradation occurring in Verb Type 1, where the stem alternates between strong and weak grades.
Strong Grade (Vahva aste) distribution
Found in the basic form of the verb (infinitives), the 'hän' form (3rd person singular), and the 'he' form (3rd person plural).
Weak Grade (Heikko aste) distribution
Found in the 'minä' (1st sing.), 'sinä' (2nd sing.), 'me' (1st plur.), and 'te' (2nd plur.) forms.
Quantitative Variation: kk : k
A strong grade 'kk' changes to a weak grade 'k' (e.g., nukkua -> nukun).
Quantitative Variation: pp : p
A strong grade 'pp' changes to a weak grade 'p' (e.g., oppia -> opin).
Quantitative Variation: tt : t
A strong grade 'tt' changes to a weak grade 't' (e.g., kirjoittaa -> kirjoitan).
Qualitative Variation: k : Ø (kato)
A strong grade 'k' disappears in the weak grade (e.g., lukea -> luen).
Qualitative Variation: p : v
A strong grade 'p' changes to a weak grade 'v' (e.g., leipoa -> leivon).

A strong grade 't' changes to a weak grade 'd' (e.g., tietää -> tiedän).

Negative Conjugation (Negatiivinen taivutus)
Formed using the negation word (en, et, ei, emme, ette, eivät) + the weak stem of the verb without a personal ending (e.g., 'minä en lue').
