What does the label contain information about?

Handling, storage, use, and disposal of the pesticide.

Why is it important to read the pesticide label?

It is a legal document that must be followed to avoid liability and fines.

What is Section 3 of FIFRA?

The most common and comprehensive registration. It means the EPA has reviewed and approved all information required to support all uses listed on the label.

What does Section 24(c) allow?

It allows for distribution and use of a pesticide within a specific state or locality when a special registration is requested due to unmanaged pests.

What is a Section 18 Exemption?

Exemptions for specific public health needs and crises; usage must comply with the Section 18 label.

What is a Section 25(b) Exemption?

Certain pesticides exempt from normal registration due to posing minimum risk; do not require EPA approval or label.

What are active ingredients?

Ingredients that actually control the pest.

What are inert ingredients?

Ingredients that do not control the pest.

Where do you look for the restricted use classification on a pesticide label?

It appears on the top front panel of the label.

What does the signal word 'Danger-poison' signify?

The product is highly toxic by any route of entry into the body and must include a skull & crossbones symbol.

What does 'Caution' indicate on a pesticide label?

The product is slightly toxic through oral, dermal, or inhalation, or causes slight eye/skin irritation.

What are precautionary statements?

All pesticide labels contain precautionary statements. These statements indicate ways the pesticide may be particularly hazardous, in three different categories.

What does a Misuse Statement on a label mean?

It states that it is a violation of federal law to use the product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

What must pesticide users obey besides the label?

Directions on documents/materials referenced on the label.

Who is responsible for developing a pesticide's MSDS?

Manufacturers are responsible for developing and providing it upon request.

What is a restricted use classification?

Restricted Use pesticides need special attention as they could cause extraneous harm even if used as intended.  

What are the three types of precautionary statements?
