New cards

Which receptors are responsible for taste?

  • Gustatory receptors

2
New cards

Which receptors detect smell?

  • Olfactory receptors

3
New cards

How does information pass from neuron to neuron? Explain with all steps

  • Information is acquired at the Dendrite

  • The recieved information sets off a chemical reaction at the dendrite

  • The chemical reaction results in a electrical impulse

  • The chemical impulse travels from the dendrite to the cell body, axon and finally reaches the nerve ending

  • At the nerve ending the electrical impulse releases chemicals

  • These chemicals cross the synapse and start a similar impulse in the dendrite of the next neuron

4
New cards

What is a reflex arc?

  • A reflex arc is a neural pathway that controls a reflex action.

5
New cards

Where are reflex arcs formed at?

  • Spinal cord

6
New cards

What are the two types of nerves present within the Peripheral nervous system?

  • Cranial nerves

  • Spinal Nerves

7
New cards

What does the Central Nervous System consist of?

  • Brain

  • Spinal Cord

8
New cards

What are the three major parts of the brain?

  • Forebrain

  • Mid Brain

  • Hind Brain

9
New cards

What is the function of the forebrain?

  • Main thinking part of the brain

  • It has regions which recieve sensory impulses from various receptors

10
New cards

What is the function of the Mid Brain?

  • The mid brain is responsible for processing sensory information and is involved in regulating motor control and reflexes.

11
New cards

Which components constitute the Hind Brain?

  • Pons

  • Medulla

  • Cerebellum

12
New cards

What is the function of Pons?

  • It controls facial expressions and regulates functions such as breathing and communication between different parts of the brain

13
New cards

What is the function of Medula?

  • It controls the rate of respiration and it influences the rate at which the heart beats

14
New cards

What is the function of the Cerebellum?

  • It maintains the posture and equilibrium of the body

15
New cards

What fluid surrounds the brain?

  • Cerebrospinal Fluid

16
New cards

What is the function of the CSF?

  • The Cerebrospinal fluid provides shock absorption

17
New cards

What protects the spinal cord?

  • The vertebral column

18
New cards

How does a muscle cell move when they recieve a nerve impulse to do so?

  • They change their shape so that they shorten

19
New cards

How do muscle cells change their shape?

  • They have special proteins that change their shape in response to nerve impulses

  • When this happens, new arrangements of these proteins give the muscle cell a shorter form
