What is Organizational Behavior (OB)?
Organizational Behavior is how individuals and groups interact with each other within an organization.
What are the four management functions listed in Chapter 1?
Planning (ideas, dreams, numbers), organizing (putting it into action), leading (inspiration), and controlling (budget, things, quality).
What four types of resources are managed in an organization?
Human, financial, physical, and info.
What is the overarching purpose of organizational management functions and resources?
Effective & Efficient Attainment of Organizational Goals.
What are technical management skills?
The skills necessary to accomplish specific tasks within the organization, such as operating heavy machinery, using Excel/Microsoft, or typing.
What are interpersonal management skills?
The ability to effectively communicate with, understand, and motivate individuals and groups through connecting rather than simple communication.
What are conceptual management skills?
The ability to think in the abstract and see the 'big picture', which affects every other department.
What are diagnostic management skills?
The ability to understand cause-and-effect relationships and recognize optimal solutions to problems.
How is Employee Engagement defined?
An independent variable representing the extent that employees understand and embrace their role.
How is Job Satisfaction defined?
An independent variable that is influenced by personal and organizational factors.
What items are categorized as Hygiene factors?
Pay, benefits, working conditions, policies & procedures.
What items are categorized as Motivational factors?
Job development, appreciation, value, listening.
How is Synergy defined and expressed mathematically in Chapter 2?
Synergy means that the combined effort is greater than the sum of individual parts, expressed as 1+1=3.
What is the difference between Surface-Level and Deep-Level Diversity?
Surface-level diversity refers to observable differences, while deep-level diversity includes non-observable characteristics like goals, values, personalities, decision making style, knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes.
What is Intersectionality?
Sharing 2 or more differences.
What is Separation Diversity?
Differences in position or opinion regarding attitudes and values.
What is Variety Diversity?
Differences in a certain type or category, such as expertise and knowledge.
What is Disparity Diversity?
Differences in the concentration of valuable social assets or resources, such as rank and authority.

Effort, ability, loyalty, skills, time, and competencies.

What is an Internal Locus of Control?
A high locus of control where we believe we are in control of our lives and what happens to us.
What is an External Locus of Control?
A low locus of control where we believe forces beyond our control dictate what happens to us.
How do Type A and Type B personalities differ?
Type A individuals are more competitive, more dedicated to work, and have a stronger sense of time urgency; Type B individuals are less competitive, less devoted to work, and have a weaker sense of time urgency.
According to the lecture notes, why do people bully?
Insecurity and jealousy.
What is Emotional Intelligence (EI)?
An interpersonal capability that includes the ability to perceive and express emotions, understand and use them, and manage emotions in oneself and other people (empathy).
What are the five components of Emotional Intelligence?
Self-awareness, self-motivation, self-management, empathy, and social skills.
How is Self-Motivation defined within Emotional Intelligence?
Persisting in the face of obstacles, setbacks, and failure.
