High Frequency Transducer
An ultrasound transducer chosen for CCA scanning that allows better detail resolution but offers less penetration.
TRV Screen Anatomy Orientation
The screen anatomy orientation for transverse scanning, which includes anterior, posterior, right, and left.
CCA SAG Screen Anatomy Orientation
The screen anatomy orientation for common carotid artery sagittal scanning, which includes anterior, posterior, superior, and inferior.
Output Power Control Key
A control that increases the amplitude, Power, and intensity of the transmitted signal to yield a brighter image on screen, requiring adherence to the ALARA principle.
Depth Control Key
A control used to adjust image depth to 6cm, which changes pulsed sound wave parameters by increasing PRF and duty factor while decreasing PRP.
Gain Control Key
A control key that identically amplifies all returned echoes, making the image brighter from top to bottom.
Time Gain Compensation (TGC)
A control adjusted based on depth, necessary because deeper echoes require more amplification due to greater attenuation of the sound.
Focus Control Key
A control adjusted according to the structure being scanned, providing higher sound intensity at the focus due to a narrow beam area and improving lateral resolution.
Multiple Focus Zones
A setting adding more focuses on screen; it improves lateral resolution via a narrower beam at the focus, but degrades temporal resolution because additional pulses and scan lines cause frame rate delay.
Decreased Sector Size
An adjustment resulting in fewer pulses and scan lines provided by the ultrasound machine, which improves temporal resolution.
Increased Sector Size
An adjustment requiring more pulses and scan lines, which causes a lower frame rate and degrades temporal resolution.
Harmonic Control Key
A feature that doubles the transducer frequency and improves lateral resolution because the beam is more narrow at the focus.
Decreased Dynamic Range
A modification made on one side using the split control key that results in higher contrast resolution but less detail on screen.
Elastogram Control Key
A feature displaying a map on screen used to differentiate between a solid and a cystic fluid mass.
Beam Cross
An ultrasound control key whose primary usefulness is that it reduces image noise.
Zoom Control Key
An activation key that improves spatial resolution due to the addition of more pixels.

A control key used to assign 2 different colors to an image, based on the principle that eyes can identify color better than gray.

An ultrasound operating mode whose primary usefulness is measuring heart rate.
