Catallus poem 2

Cenabis bene, mi Fabulle, apud me

You will dine well, my Fabullus, at my house.

paucis, si tibi di fauent, diebus,

In a few days, if the gods favour you.

si tecum attuleris bonam atque magnam

If you bring with you a good and big.

cenam, non sine candida puella

dinner, not without a pretty girl.

et uino et sale et omnibus cachinnis.

And wine and wit and all laughter.

haec si, inquam, attuleris, venuste noster,

If you bring these, I say, our charming friend.

cenabis bene; nam tui Catulli

You will dine well; for your Catullus’s.

plenus sacculus est aranearum.

Wallet is full of cobwebs.

sed contra accipies meros amores

But in return you will receive pure love.

seu quid suauius elegantiusue est:

Or whatever is sweeter or more elegant.

nam unguentum dabo, quod meae puellae

For I will give perfume, which my girl.

donarunt Veneres Cupidinesque,

The Gods and Goddesses of love gave

quod tu cum olfacies, deos rogabis,

Which when you smell it, you will ask the gods.

totum ut te faciant, Fabulle, nasum.
