Absolute Location
Indicates a precise geographical location on the Earth's surface.
Latitude
Lines that run horizontally around the Earth, parallel to the equator.
Longitude
Lines that run vertically around the Earth, with the Prime Meridian at the center.
Relative Location
Describes one location in reference to another, usually measured in time or space.
Space
The geometric surface of the Earth, a theoretical concept.
Place
Describes the way humans modify a particular space to reflect their identity or culture.
Flow
Describes the patterns of connection and movement between two places.
Distance Decay
The concept that the further apart two things are, the less connected they will be.
Time Space Compression
Describes the decreased distance between two places, measured by time or cost of travel.
Patterns
An arrangement of phenomena on the landscape that geographers try to describe and understand.
Random Pattern
Geographical phenomena with no discernible pattern or order.
Clustered Pattern
Geographical phenomena that are tightly packed together.
Dispersed Pattern
Geographical phenomena that are spread out.
Linear Pattern
Geographical phenomena that occur in a straight line.
Circular patterns
Geographical phenomena that appear in a circular arrangement.
Geometric Patterns
Geographical phenomena that appear in a regular, orderly fashion, like square or rectangle.
