Clark: And that’s the difference between him and me.
Pam: You’re certainly right. (Edith enters)
Something strange is happening.
(There’s a bang of thunder that shakes the entire house. The lights flicker. Edith stares out the picture window.)
Fred: I’d stay back from the window-
(Another bang of thunder and a flash of lightning.)
Mercy! (Edith spills her martini)
Did you see that?
Clark: What happened?
That bird that just fell. It dropped straight down like a bowling ball. You can’t see it now, it must’ve gone into a bush or something, but, honest, nobody else saw it fall?
Pam: No.
(Edith notices the spilled martini.)
Oh, no. I’m sorry, I’m terribly sorry…
(She hurries to the kitchen.)
Pam: What’s the big deal? It’s a bird.
(Edith returns with a rag.)
John: I got it. (John wipes up the floor and hands the rag back to Edith.)
It startled me, that’s all.
(She exits to the kitchen.)
Clark: …waiting for a cake to thaw.
Fred: Well I suppose you’re right.
(Edith enters)
Don’t tell me you’re leaving?
Clark: They decided to take their chances while the weather’s calm.
I’m sorry the evening had to end on such a sour note. It was lovely meeting you both.
Pam: I expect we’ll be seeing much of each other from now on.
I’d like that very much.
Clark: …and good riddance.
(Edith starts cleaning up.)
Daisy: Are you alright?
I’m fine.
Daisy: But I want to stay and help Edith.
Don’t worry, I can manage.
Daisy: Okay. Well, it really was a lovely party.
Thank you.
Daisy: Oh! And is it fine if I stop by tomorrow to return those books you lent me?
Yes, of course.
John: Night, everyone.
Goodnight. (Edith starts cleaning up.)
