ends w OH in chemical formula
ex: NaOH, KOH.

if anion ends in -ide, acid name has prefix of hydro-, suffix -ic. For example, HCl is hydrochloric acid.

if the anion ends in -it'd, the acid name is stem of anion w suffix -ous.
rule #3
if anion ends in -ate, acid name is stem of anion w suffix -ic.
what rules are only for polyatomic atoms?

base to formula
write symbol for cation and anion, determine cations charge, criss cross.
formula to name
write name of cation, if anion replace ending s -ide, if polyatomic, write as is on PT.
