The smartest unit that can carry out the processes of life (MR.HGREN)
Cell Theory
1) All living organisms are composed of one or more cells.
2) The cell is the basic unit of structure and function in all organisms.
3) New cells arise only from the division of pre-existing cells. (cell division)
Organisms can be:
Unicellular- One cell does anything needed for life (bacteria)
Multicellular- Many cells working together (humans and trees)
Unicellular organisms
Organisms that carry out all the functions of life inside just one cell. This means a single cell must perform every process needed to stay alive, respond to its environment, and reproduce.

Plasma membrane
A thin, flexible boundary that surrounds the cell and controls exchange with the environment.
