Department of Tourism (DOT)
The primary planning, programming, coordinating, implementing, and regulatory government agency in developing and promoting the tourism industry, both domestic and international, in the Philippines.
National Parks Development Committee (NPDC)
An attached agency of the DOT that provides fully developed and well-maintained parks for the wholesome recreation and socio-cultural education of the Filipino people.
Intramuros Administration (IA)
An attached agency responsible for the orderly restoration and development of Intramuros as a monument to the Hispanic period in Philippine history (sixteenth to nineteenth century).
Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving (PCSSD)
An attached agency that provides standard basic dive rules, regulates scuba sports and technical diving in the country, and ensures safety through policy formulation.
Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA)
A government-owned and controlled corporation created under Executive Order No. 1037 on July 04, 1985, mandated to develop and promote the Philippines as a retirement haven.
Nayong Pilipino Foundation
An agency mandated to promote, encourage, and initiate research and development projects in social sciences, humanities, and social amelioration, and formulate comprehensive social welfare programs.
Duty Free Philippines Corporation (DFPC)
An entity authorized to establish, operate, and maintain duty and tax-free stores at all international airports, seaports, selected hotels, tourist resorts, and commercial centers in the Philippines.
Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA)
A GOCC responsible for tourism infrastructure development, designation and supervision of Tourism Enterprise Zones (TEZs), management of TIEZA assets, and collection of the Philippine travel tax.
Tourism Enterprise Zones (TEZs)
A tract of land to be developed into a tourism complex to host tourism enterprise facilities and services within the property.
Tourism Promotions Board (TPB)
An agency responsible for marketing and promoting the Philippines domestically and internationally, specifically tasked with marketing the country as a major convention destination in Asia.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)
The primary agency responsible for the conservation, management, development, and proper use of the country's environment and natural resources.
National Economic Development Authority (NEDA)
The premier socioeconomic planning body in the Philippines, highly regarded as the authority in macroeconomic forecasting, policy analysis, and research.
National Ecotourism Development Committee (NEDC)
The policy-making body for ecotourism chaired by the DOT and co-chaired by the DENR, responsible for formulating the national ecotourism strategy and policies.
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
An organization of 10 Southeast Asian countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) that promotes cultural, economic, and political development.
Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
A regional economic forum established in 1989 with 21 members aimed at creating greater prosperity by championing free and open trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN)
A membership union composed of government and civil society organizations that provides knowledge and tools enabling human progress, economic development, and nature conservation to take place together.
United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)
The United Nations agency in charge of promoting responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism worldwide.
UNESCO World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Programme
A program launched in 2011 to facilitate the management and development of sustainable tourism at World Heritage properties while protecting their Outstanding Universal Value.
World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC)
The only global body that brings together all major players in the travel and tourism sector to speak with one (1) voice to governments and international bodies.
Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA)
The world's largest cruise industry trade association providing a unified voice and leading authority for the global cruise community.
Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)
A not-for-profit association internationally acclaimed for acting as a catalyst for the responsible development of travel and tourism to, from, and within the Asia Pacific region.
World Wildlife Fund (WWF)
The world's leading conservation organization working to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
Accommodation Sector
The sector that provides a wide variety of places to sleep with amenities and facilities for temporary use, ranging from luxury five-star hotels to one-star hotels, resorts, motels, and vacation houses.
Food and Beverage Service Sector
The sector broadly defined as the process of preparing, presenting, and serving food and beverages to customers in establishments like restaurants, cafés, bars, and clubs.
Attractions Sector
Facilities visited by tourists at a destination for entertainment, education, and leisure, categorized as either natural (beaches, mountains) or man-made (monuments, theme parks).
Transportation Sector
The sector providing the medium for the actual movement of travelers via air, water, road, and rail, including airlines, car rental, cruise, ferry, and rail.
Travel Trade Sector
The sector comprised of individuals and companies (middlemen) that resell travel products and services bought or reserved from other parties, such as travel agencies, tour operators, and DMOs.
Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE)
A fast-growing segment of the tourism industry dedicated to planning, organizing, booking, and facilitating conferences, seminars, and events.
Meeting (MICE)
Any occasion where two (2) or more people come together with a common agenda to discuss.
Incentive (MICE)
The rewarding of employees for their quality of work and performance.
Convention (MICE)
The gathering of delegates, representatives, and members of an organization for a common purpose coupled with activities happening simultaneously.
Exhibition (MICE)
An event that promotes new products, services, and materials to attendees that may be potential customers.
Plan and Facilitate Tourism
A government role involving policy creation, planning, safety regulations, and establishing growth objectives and strategies for tourism.
Control and Supervision of Tourism
A government role performed to prevent disastrous events, maintain orderliness, uphold quality standards, and match supply with demand to protect tourists and stakeholders.
