Electric Guitar

As millennials, most of the songs you listen to use electric guitars. It became one of the most widely used instruments since its invention in the 1940s. It literally changed the musical landscape because it gave birth to Rock 'n' Roll and many other genres. Its sound effects possibilities and ease of use made it a staple for emerging musicians looking to challenge existing sounds.

Amplifier

The - or speaker changed the performance environment, allowing open air concerts even in football stadiums, providing more crowd connection and impact as it "amplifies" the sound. It allowed musicians to widen dynamics; vocalists can do a whisper but still be heard. Most electric instruments depend on amplifiers to create louder sound projection.

Multitrack Recording

Before its existence, musicians and sound engineers had to record a one full track in just one take. Imagine how tedious and exhausting that would be, when you commit a mistake and had to start all over again. Multitrack recording enabled songs to be broken down into sections, one piece at a time, allowing more room for experimentation, and time to perfect music. Without it, your favorite songs probably may have never been recorded.

Synthesizer

The creation of the - was born out of the desire to recreate or replicate the different instrumental sounds of orchestras. Turntable

This allows a musician to alter the sounds of a music as it is played live. It is a crucial component to some of the most influential genres in the world, hip hop, and Electronic Dance Music (EDM). This playback device allows aspiring disc jockeys (DJs) to create their own version on popular songs, which eventually gave birth to many other popular styles like techno and house music. Music for clubbing and partying is made possible by turntables.

Auto-Tune

The introduction of the Vocoder allowed musicians to bend and manipulate their own voice, almost to the same extent as an instrument. Auto-tuning allowed people to improve their voice recordings, in terms of intonation. This feature automatically puts your singing or speaking voice in tune with the music.

Personal Computer (PC) and Internet

One of the more obvious influences on music, the PC and world wide web created home-grown talents that went on to become superstars with the use of different software or applications. It allows anyone with a computer to step into the stage and create music without any instruments or studio. Today, you can almost do anything with music and sound, just by using your mobile phone.
