Vasectomy
A procedure in which the vas defrans is cut.
Anterior pituitary hormones for gonads
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing hormone (LH), which stimulate the gonads.
Bulbourethral gland
An accessory gland that secretes into the urethra below the prostate.
Prostate gland
An accessory gland that secretes into the first part of the urethra below the bladder.
Seminal vesicle gland
An accessory gland that releases its secretion into the ejaculatory duct.
Scrotum
Moves the testes up and down to maintain optimal temp for semen.
Male urethra
Differs from the female urethra in that it is longer and passes both semen and urine.
Follicular phase
Phase of the ovarian cycle where FSH triggers the follicle to grow, mature, and release estrogen, and the hypothalamus releases GnRH to trigger FSH and LH.
Luteal phase
Phase of the ovarian cycle where high levels of progesterone and estrogen cause the uterine lining to thicken and the follicle turns into a corpus lumtom.
Cervical vertebrae
7 vertebrae located in the neck.
Suture
An example of an immovable, fibrous joint found in cranial bones.
Mandible
The only movable bone in the skull, articulating with the temporal bone.
Coxyyx
The last bone in the spinal column.
Lambar vertebrae
The vertebrae located in the lower back.
Diaphias
The shaft of a long bone.
Flat bones
Bones that protect the internal organs.
Irregular bones
Bones that have a complicated shape and do not fit in other categories.
Long bones
Bones that support weight and movement, filled with red marrow that creates blood cells.
Seasmois bone
A type of bone that supports tendons.
Short bones
Bones that provide stability to joints that bear weight.
Synovial joint
A freely moving joint filled with fluid, such as the knee joint and shoulder joint.
Cartilaginous joint
A slightly movable joint, such as an intervertebral disk or pubic symphysis.
Fibrous joint
An immovable joint, such as a cranial suture or teeth in socket.
Roatation
180 degree twisting movement.
Protraction
Movement defined as sticking out.
Circumduction
Circle motion at a ball-in-socket joint.
Adduction
Movement that brings the limbs back towards midline.
Medial rotation
Rotation in midline.
Retraction
Movement defined as pulling back in.
Eversion
Elevating lateral soles.
Lateral rotation
Rotating out to the side.
Abduction
Pulling the limbs away from midline.
