Stands for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
3 objectives of first aid
Preserve life
prevent further injury

When to get medical help
Someone is unresponsive
Has chest pain

Has severe or uncontrolled bleeding

How to treat shock
Handle the person gently and loosen any tight clothing
Treat the injury that caused shock
Rest the person in a comfortable position
Help maintain normal body temperature
Continue ongoing care until medical help arrives and takes over
Good Samaritan law
This law was developed to protect people who voluntarily assist others in need. It says that first aid responders who volunteer to help injured people will not be held liable if they do so in good faith and act resonably

What is shock?
Shock is a circulatory problem that occurs when body tissues are deprived of oxygenated blood.

Dizziness

Signs and symptoms of a stroke
Face: Drooping on one side
Arm: numbness or paralysis on one side
Speech: impaired, slurring or inncorect speech
Why would you stop CPR?
An AED is applied
The victim is revived
Another first aider arrives and takes over
The area becomes unsafe
You are to exhausted to continue
What does AED mean
Automated External Defibrillator
What does a AED do?
An AED provides an electric shock to stop and correct a heart that has stopped beating properly.
Steps for choking
Take charge of the situation
Approach the victim from the front
Ask the victim, “ are you choking”?
Tell the victim you are trained and get consent to help
Do 5 back blows and 5 abdominal thrusts
Repeat step #5 and check the mouth after each sequence
