What does the number 40 represent in Scripture?
need, struggle, and hardship
How is the Trinity revealed at Jesus' Baptism? Why was Jesus baptized?
after he was baptized, the heavens were opened and the Holy Spirit descended in the form of a dove. God the Father's voice from heaven says, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." This also shows that Jesus is the Son of God. So, the Holy Spirit, the Father, and the Son were revealed at the baptism of Jesus. Jesus was baptized to make the waters holy, and he made the waters holy to show His love, reconcile us with God (all sin is wiped away through the waters of Baptism), and to enable us to share in his divine life (God the father claims you as his child). Also, Jesus's baptism shows the acceptance of his mission as the Messiah, the mission of salvation

How did Satan tempt Jesus in the desert?
with the threefold temptation that all humans experience: lust of the flesh (turn stones to bread), lust of the eyes (throw yourself from the Temple), and pride of life or desire for power (worship me and I will give you power)
Why would Jesus allow himself to be tempted?
to empathize with human weakness and to give us an example to follow by overcoming temptation
How does Jesus' temptation relate to the temptation Adam and Eve experienced in the garden?
same threefold temptation (lust of flesh, lust of the eyes, pride of life/desire for power); Adam and Eve said yes and Jesus said no
Why did we receive ashes on our foreheads at the beginning of Lent?
because the ritual is based on a ceremony from the early Church done by bishops to penitents, and it symbolizes penance and God's mercy. The ashes are the sign of a sinner, and the cross states that we have a Savior
Why do we fast during Lent?
four main reasons why we fast are self-mastery, obedience and discernment, worship and sacrifice, and to be a co-redeemer with Christ
How can we "enter the desert" with Jesus during this Lent? (LIST the 3 pillars of Lent). Give a tangible example for each pillar that someone your age could do.
We can "enter the desert" with Jesus during this Lent through the three pillars, prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. We can "enter the desert" with Jesus through prayer by inserting a period for prayer into our day in at least one place, such as just before going to bed, and pray the Rosary. We can also make sure that our prayers aren't just asking God for things but having a conversation with God and keeping our prayers reverent, respectful, and peaceful. We can "enter the desert" with Jesus through fasting by removing something negative that we constantly do from our lives, such as gossip and talking negatively about other people. This is something that I think everyone could use a little less of, and fasting doesn't have to be just food, so this could be something we fast from during this Lent. We can "enter the desert" with Jesus through almsgiving by donating old clothes, toys, and games that we no longer use. As teenage girls in this day and age, we are constantly buying new clothes - so it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to donate some of those things that are outdated or a bit ill-fitting to someone who could really use them and would use them better and more than we would. This is how we could "enter the desert" with Jesus during this Lent.
