how to zoom in and out on google earth:
use a rotary wheel on mouse
click the plus or minus on the tool on the ride side of screen
right click and move mouse forward or backward
how do you slide / translate your position while keeping the same altitude and orientation?
left click and move mouse in the direction you want to move
how do you change the angle of your point of view?
hold the shift key down and move the mouse around
how do you change your point of view held constant from a certain elevation?
hold the control key down and move the mouse around
how do you enter the street level view?
left click and drag the person icon to the point that you want and release the mouse button
what does the road look like if it is a location that has photography taken from a moving vehicle?
the road will show up a highlighted yellow
what does the orientation of a valley mean?
direction in which a valley runs or extends along the Earth’s surface
north-south orientation → primarily runs north to south
how can you tell if a roadcut is igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic?
igneous → lack layering or bedding
sedimentary → distinct layers
metamorphic → can display banding or foliation
how to tell if a volcano has been active recently:
new lava flows, recent ash deposits, evidence of ground deformation
